My name is Ramy Raphael. I am an Arab-Canadian filmmaker. I do pretty much a lot of stuff behind the camera: filmmaking, directing, producing, cinematography, photography, color grading and post-production editing. I collaborate on many projects overlooked by my producing partner, Maissa Houri. Maissa is also an Arab-Canadian filmmaker and producer. We both share similar outlook and taste in filmmaking. Together, we started our journey in 2018 with our first award-winning film “Inara” (Ray of Light). This marked my first steps in the world of professional filmmaking. When we are not working on mutual projects, we mentor and help other new or experienced filmmakers create their own films!
I am very passionate about storytelling & films. For me, creating films is cathartic. It allows me to open up to the world and share meaningful and impactful stories with everyone. Very often, I use my filmmaking platform to shine the light on numerous pressing issues in our society.
We make films & drama. Sometimes we win awards or cause controversies.
I'm very passionate about filmmaking. The biggest lesson I learned as a filmmaker is that filmmaking is a big moral responsibility! It requires lots of preparation, human resources, teamwork, research, budgeting and planning. Stories are like flowers. You have to nurture them in order to watch them bloom. My producing partner Maissa and I receive beautiful scripts on a regular basis. Whether you are new in the field of filmmaking or an experienced filmmaker, it does not matter. Your story is what motivate us. It's what makes us excited. As a team, we have access to great resources and professional connections that will accommodate our colleagues in films. Our mission is to help filmmakers plan and achieve a quality film in function of a reasonable proposed budget.
Just like Mindy Kaling and B.J Novak, Maissa and I aspire to form a memorable duo in the film indusrty. We both share the same vision in wanting to adopt controversial topics and complex stories that discuss human conflicts, inner psychology, and struggles of certain minorities in our society.
We are currently based in Ottawa, Canada.
